About
Charmaine, Founder of Goldfire
'I create art across a range of mediums, including digital illustration, photography, and painting.
Creativity runs deep in my family. The women around me are incredibly talented and have inspired me throughout my life. My mum is a designer and seamstress who creates our signature GoldFire cushions—you may spot her beautiful face or hands on my feed from time to time. My late grandmother was also a seamstress and was truly ahead of her time when it came to fashion. My aunties create jewellery, make natural skincare products, and paint. With so much creativity around me, it’s no surprise that I followed a similar path.
Goldfire was born in 2019 from an idea my mum and I developed together. We wanted to create fashion and homeware that was both beautiful and environmentally conscious, using offcuts, recycled fabrics, and materials sourced from local merchants. Everything was made to order, ensuring as little waste as possible.
We launched Goldfire just weeks before the pandemic. When lockdown began, we adapted quickly and started making our now-infamous face masks. At a time when masks became an everyday necessity, we transformed them into stylish accessories, allowing us to continue creating while supporting ourselves through a challenging period.
After taking a break to pursue other opportunities—including working in the beauty industry as a designer and art director—I felt it was time to bring Goldfire back. This time, the focus is on homeware. The vision has evolved, but the values remain the same: thoughtful design, sustainable practices, and creating pieces that bring beauty into everyday life.'
